A new report by a mental-health psychiatrist says the best way to get someone diagnosed with mental health issues is to first try to identify what they are, and then seek help.
The report, which was released on Tuesday, also says it is critical for health care workers to have a greater understanding of the different types of mental health disorders, and the mental health professionals who can help them.
The author of the report, Dr Jennifer Bussard, said the most common mental health diagnoses were social anxiety disorder, depression and panic disorder.
“In fact, one in five people in Australia have one of these,” she said.
“They are often treated as if they are not, and it’s a really important thing for people to know, so they can understand how they can manage their symptoms and manage their lives better.”
Dr Bussards report said it was important to know the symptoms of all mental health conditions, because the best treatment is prevention.
“It’s important to understand the different symptoms that can be associated with each of these disorders, so that people can make an informed choice about which type of treatment is best for them,” she added.
“And also, it’s important for people who are seeing a mental healthcare professional to have the opportunity to seek out and talk to someone who can offer help with those symptoms.”
The report says if a person has panic disorder, it is not appropriate to refer them to a specialist because it could be associated to a more serious mental health condition.
Dr Bussenards report also recommends the introduction of an independent mental health assessment tool, similar to one developed in Australia and used to diagnose mental health problems in New Zealand.
“That way, you don’t need to have to talk to a mental care professional to get the right treatment,” she explained.
“If someone does have a panic disorder and they don’t have any symptoms associated with it, then they should be referred to a qualified health practitioner who can assess their symptoms.”
People should be able to get information on mental health treatment, so if they have a problem that needs treatment, they can access that treatment.
“The new tool would allow people to see if a professional could help them, and also provide a “list of recommended providers” to help them access the most appropriate support.
Dr Jennifer Bussenard said mental health providers should be aware of the symptoms and challenges that people with mental illnesses face, and that they need to be able “to manage that”.”
When they’re in crisis and they feel they’re not being listened to, then people need to understand what that means for them, what it means for their mental health,” she told news.com.au.”
So that they know that when they talk to somebody that’s offering support, they’re going to get that support.
“The National Mental Health Council says a mental illness is an illness that can cause a range of mental- and physical-health issues.
The NMC also says that people should be prepared to take responsibility for their own mental health and get support to cope with it.”
We believe that mental health is an issue that should be addressed by the health service in Australia, and we know that the best solution to mental health will be provided by people themselves, as opposed to by other services,” the NMC’s executive director of mental wellbeing, Dr Mark Bowers, said.
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) also supports a holistic approach to mental illness.”
The best way for mental health care to be delivered is to provide a continuum of care to patients and their families,” the NHMRC said.
Dr Jannie Smith from the University of Sydney’s School of Nursing said mental illness was a “significant challenge” for health workers and that “mental health professionals must be aware” of their patients’ symptoms and needs.”
Dr Smith said people with a problem with depression or anxiety should not be seen as “mentally ill”, but instead as “problem patients”.””
It’s not just the symptom that people are feeling, but also how they feel about themselves.”
Dr Smith said people with a problem with depression or anxiety should not be seen as “mentally ill”, but instead as “problem patients”.
“In a sense, the mental illness isn’t really a mental condition, it can’t be diagnosed,” she says.
“Rather, it needs to be identified, it must be treated, and in some cases, it may need to end.”
