Mental health is often seen as an issue of social disadvantage.

But the National Mental Health Strategy is a comprehensive strategy that aims to reduce the number of people in mental health institutions, increase access to mental health services and improve the wellbeing of Australians.

It is set to be implemented in the new year, with key policy priorities including: A national mental health strategy to address issues of social and economic disadvantage and the impact of mental illness on communities, particularly women and those with mental health conditions;
